Summertime

Prepare your little one well

On the last Sunday of March, Daylight Saving Time begins, which means we need to set the clock one hour ahead. Daylight Saving Time ensures that it gets light one hour later in the morning and dark one hour later in the evening. For young children, this can disrupt their sleep schedule. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to help prepare your little one for this change.

With these tips, you can help your little one smoothly transition to Daylight Saving Time.

Transition from Winter Time to Daylight Saving Time

With the transition to daylight saving time, it's important to prepare yourself and your little one for the change in rhythm. By making some small adjustments about a week before the transition from winter time to daylight saving time, this can go much smoother. This way, your baby (and you too) will be less affected by the transition and you can get used to the new rhythm faster.

how to do it?

      • Start about a week in advance by gradually shifting all activities, including naps, meals, and bedtime routines, earlier by 15 minutes each day.

      • For example, if your child normally goes to bed at 7:00 p.m., gradually shift the bedtime routine 15 minutes earlier each day until you reach 6:00 p.m. just before the transition to Daylight Saving Time. This allows your little one to adjust gradually without too much disturbance to their sleep.

      • Note: Avoid suddenly putting your child to bed an hour earlier. This can lead to restless nights.

  • It is also important to adjust your little one's sleep environment. Make sure the room is dark enough, so that the brighter evening light does not interfere with falling asleep later.

  • Following a calming bedtime routine, such as a warm bath, reading a book, or playing soothing music, can be helpful.

  • During the day, try to spend as much time outside together as possible. This helps your child's body to sleep better at night.

  • Keep in mind that the body needs time to adjust to the new schedule. Therefore, ensure there are sufficient periods of rest throughout the day to prevent overtiredness.

  • By following this simple approach, you can ensure a smoother transition to Daylight Saving Time for you and your little one. Hopefully, you can enjoy a wonderful summer and a restful night's sleep together!
