Going out with your baby in the winter

A breath of fresh air, a warm baby!

King winter is upon us. That means: cold! Fortunately, nothing stops you from going out with your baby. Not even gusty winds, low temperatures and rain showers. So it's just a breath of fresh air together. With the right preparation you can keep your little one nice and warm. It's a matter of packing well and going!

Layer over layer

Is it cold outside? Several layers of clothing keep your baby nice and warm. Easy to remember: put your baby on the same number of layers as you have, plus one extra layer. This extra layer is, for example, a blanket or the fabric of a footmuff. Preferably use cotton for the lower layers of clothing such as the romper. Is it really cold? Then choose woolen clothing for the lower layers. With Merino wool you can be sure that it does not itch. In addition, you always put on a hat and cover the neck with a scarf or high coat.

Protect the skin

Your baby's skin is still super sensitive, so even in the colder months: apply cream! Choose a greasy baby cream, but make sure that it is not water-based. Then the cream can freeze. When your baby takes a bath, put some baby oil in the water, especially during the colder months. This prevents your baby's skin from drying out.

Indispensable: a warm footmuff

In the Maxi Cosi, car seat or in the pram, a footmuff will keep your little one at the right temperature. Important, but certainly for newborns who are not yet able to regulate their own body temperature. A footmuff keeps the wind out and the heat in. Then quickly remove the blanket. Always keep one extra with you. This way you will never be faced with surprises and your little one will always and everywhere remain at the right temperature. Out and about? 5 tips to keep your baby nice and warm

1. Feel the neck. Cold? Add a layer. Sticky? Remove a layer. Your baby's neck is the best place to feel whether your baby is not too hot or cold. If it feels sweaty, your baby is too warm and you can therefore safely remove a layer. So if the neck feels cold, you can easily add a layer.

2. Always take an extra blanket with you. This way you can keep your baby warm enough in every situation. Still a nice idea in case of car breakdown or unexpectedly long walks, for example.

3. Check the hands. When baby's hands feel cold, it doesn't mean he's too cold. Look specifically at the color. If they turn red or a bit purple, put on some gloves.

4. From cold to warm? Take off a layer. When you shop, you walk in and out of stores. As a result, the temperature always changes from cold to warm and vice versa. Make sure you always adjust the top layer to the temperature. A footmuff or sleeping bag with a zipper is ideal for this.

5. Never cover the entire stroller. Not only in the summer, but also in cool weather, you should never cover the entire pram or maxi cosi with a blanket or cloth. Always make sure that fresh air can reach your baby.
