Product use

  • What material are the products made of?

Our products are a 100% natural product and mostly made of cotton. This is extra safe for your baby as the fabric is breathable.

  • What is the best detergent to wash the products with?

Wash our products with as little detergent as possible. A newborn baby's skin is soft and delicate, so we recommend washing our products with a detergent that is hypoallergenic and ph-neutral or use a little bit of baby shampoo. Other detergents often contain fragrances and dyes and these substances are not suitable for delicate baby skin.

  • What are the washing instructions?

For each product, the washing labels indicate the best temperature to wash our products; this is often 40 degrees Celsius. Do not pat the blanket out wet after taking it out of the washing machine, but put it in the dryer on low temperature for a while or hang it out on the washing line. After several washes, blankets sometimes get a terry cloth effect, as the natural process causes the hairs to reassemble. Then repeat washing and drying at a low temperature to make the fibres in the fabric stand upright again. This way, the items will last even longer and retain their quality best.

  • What is the best way to wash products with padding?

Products with padding, such as playpen matrasses or lined sleeping bags, can clump together in the washing machine. When washing these, it is essential to tumble dry. When drying on the line, the filling can sag and clump due to gravity. This can only be prevented in the dryer with the tennis balls. If tennis balls are placed in the dryer during drying, the tennis balls repeatedly hit the padding during the drying process. This loosens the padding.

  • What is TOG value?

The TOG value stands for Thermal Overall Grade and is a number that reflects the heat resistance and insulation from baby textiles and bedding. With the TOG value you can estimate more easily what you can use best for in the crib, for example adding a blanket, removing the blanket or a pyjama or not in the sleeping bag.

  • Does this mean that I can use any material blanket, as long as it meets the correct TOG value?

No. It is still important that you choose natural materials such as wool or cotton. This ensures that your child sleeps comfortably as well as safely. If you have slept under a fleece blanket yourself, that is not pleasant, because it does not breathe, so you sweat a lot. You will experience this as unpleasant yourself, so it is certainly not pleasant for your child. Materials such as wool and cotton breathe and ensure that your child does not sweat. Materials such as teddy, velvet, fleece or microfiber are non-natural materials that ensure that your child sleeps less comfortably.

  • Why do you swaddle your baby?

You re-create the safe feeling that the womb gave your baby. The limited room to move and the pressure on the body brings it back to the feeling that the baby experienced in the womb. This gives a sense of security and makes it easier for your child to relax. When your baby is restless or crying a lot, swaddling is a great way to get him or her relaxed and calm again more quickly. In addition, babies are not aware that they have arms. As a result, they often mow themselves awake, this is called moro-reflex. They do experience that something is happening, but do not know where it comes from. Swaddling prevents them from moving their arms, which gives them peace of mind.

  • When do you swaddle your baby?

When you are dealing with a crying baby or a restless child. It is important to know whether the restlessness or crying has a medical cause. Always consult a midwife, maternity assistant or doctor before you start swaddling.

  • Does swaddling also help with cramps or reflux?

Yes, it helps the baby relax, but it does not take away the discomfort of cramps or reflux. However, if a child can relax better, he or she can often handle the pain or discomfort of cramps or reflux better.

  • When do you stop swaddling?

Most children benefit most from swaddling until they are about 3 to 4 months old. After that, most babies are able to fall asleep on their own. However, there are also babies who benefit longer from swaddling. It is important to start weaning from swaddling from the moment your child can roll over, usually around the 6th / 7th months, it is dangerous and you have to stop immediately.

  • How do you hang a canopy?

Our Meyco baby canopies have a loop at the top, which makes them easy to hang. This can be done in two ways: with a hook on the ceiling or with a pole next to the bed. The hook is ideal if you have a fixed spot for the baby's cot and want to hang the veil in the same place all the time. The pole is convenient if you want flexibility and want to be able to move the veil easily.

  • How do you hang a mobile in the canopy above the crib?

A question that is often asked is how to attach a mobile or hanger to the canopy. There are a few ways to do this as well. If you're a bit handy, you can attach them to the inside of the canopy with a needle and thread. But a much easier solution is a clip. You can then clamp the top of a music mobile or hanger to the ring of the canopy.

  • How to make the crib?

A crib or cot bed can be made in a safe way in the following 5 steps:
    - Step 1
Start with the waterproof fitted sheet by putting it around the mattress or place the sheet protector over the mattress.
    - Step 2
Put the fitted sheet over this and make sure you tuck it in at the sides. Always smooth the surface so that there is no risk of suffocation.
    - Step 3
Now fold the muslin diaper diagonally in half and place it on the place of your baby's head. This catches any spit and drool. Handy, because if you put down a new one every day, you don't have to change the entire bed every time. Make sure it is also tight and tucked in at the sides.
    - Step 4
Take the bed sheet and the blanket and place them on top of each other. Let the sheet come out about 20 cm from under the blanket and turn this part over. This way there is an edge of sheet over the blanket.
    - Step 5
When making the bed, make sure your baby's feet are almost against the footboard. You pull all that remains from the sheet and blanket tight.

    Safely making the bed
It doesn't matter whether you make up a crib or a cot. The most important thing for both is that you make it 'short'. This means that your baby's feet are almost against the foot end. This way you know for sure that your little one will be safe in the bed. Your baby cannot slide down, which makes sure he does not disappear under the bedding.

    Tuck in tight
Always tuck the bedding in tightly at the sides and the foot end. This prevents your baby from turning and from lying in a position that obstructs breathing. Of course, your little one can't turn back (well) on its own yet. Additional advantage: tucked in bedding gives a sense of security and safety.
